Building A Custom Shopify-Integrated Storefront for an Adaptive Ecommerce Apparel Brand

When LS Adaptive approached our team, they were preparing to reshape what adaptive clothing can mean for individuals with disabilities. Their patent-pending Hana Fastener™, a magnetic system engineered for one-handed use, reflects a powerful mission centered on independence, dignity, and ease.
To support that mission digitally, LS Adaptive needed a website capable of communicating their story, showcasing their products, and handling a sophisticated ecommerce structure with clarity and reliability. WebSight Design (WSD) created a fully custom online experience designed to scale with the brand as they grow.
Integrating a Shopify API into a Custom Online Storefront
Co-founder and retail professional Emily Gerhardstein saw her father, Leo, struggle with the simplest of clothing fasteners after developing aphasia. His daily frustration sparked an idea that merged Emily’s design background with a desire to solve real-world challenges. This motivation became the heartbeat of the brand and informed many of the UX and development decisions we made when designing their website.
LS Adaptive required more than a standard Shopify theme. With multiple clothing product variations—including waist size, length, and color—the site needed an integrated solution that could deliver a seamless user experience without sacrificing speed or simplicity.
We built a fully custom storefront on our WSD framework and integrated Shopify’s ecommerce platform using both the Buy Button API and the Storefront API. This hybrid architecture gives LS Adaptive a completely unique front-end design while still leveraging Shopify’s robust inventory management, cart checkout, and fulfillment systems.
The result is a storefront that feels handcrafted for the brand while offering all the reliability customers expect from a modern online shopping experience.
Real-Time Inventory Syncing and Pre-Order Functionality
Because LS Adaptive is currently taking pre-orders, the website needs to adapt on the fly as inventory statuses change. We implemented real-time syncing between Shopify and the website, ensuring that product information, descriptions, and images stay aligned across both platforms without requiring double entry from the team.
Key functionality includes:
- Real-time inventory sync between the website and Shopify
- Automatic display updates for “Pre-Order” or “Sold Out” states
- Smooth handling of complex product variations
- A custom checkout experience that still uses Shopify for fulfillment
These features help LS Adaptive launch confidently while offering customers transparency and trust from the moment they land on a product page.
A CMS Designed for Growth and Creative Flexibility
In addition to robust ecommerce functionality, LS Adaptive needed a content-rich environment that could grow with the brand while staying true to its mission. We built a flexible content management system that allows the team to update text, imagery, and page layouts independently—while still giving co-founder and product development expert Scott Craycraft the ability to fine-tune pages using custom HTML when needed. This balance of simplicity and control ensures LS Adaptive can keep the site fresh without relying on external support for routine updates.
As with the majority of our projects, we designed LS Adaptive's site to WCAG AA compliance standards. Its intuitive navigation, strong contrast ratios, mobile-friendly design, and thoughtful content structure all contribute to a user experience rooted in accessibility. The result is a digital presence that mirrors LS Adaptive’s values—accessible, dignified, and built to empower.
Strengthening LS Adaptive’s Brand and Digital Footprint
To support early-stage brand growth, we integrated touchpoints that help LS Adaptive stay connected with their audience. Prominent social media links, email sign-up opportunities, and storytelling-driven content areas help visitors explore the Hana Fastener™, stay up to date on product updates, and browse pre-order options.
