A New Web Site for Montgomery Securities - San Francisco Investment Bank
December 7, 2025 | By: Alex Paine
WSD recently launched GoMonty.com – a new web site for Montgomery Securities. Run by CEO J. Alfred Ritter, Montgomery Securities is a boutique investment bank that offers financial and strategic advisory services including private capital, private equity, valuations, and mergers & acquisitions. Montgomery Securities also offers asset management services.
Featured clients by Montgomery Securities professionals (including clients at prior entities) include:
Our engagement with Montgomery Securities initially seemed like a straightforward build – the client needed a small website with a clean design, a Content Management System, and baseline SEO. However, as we dug into the client's history during discovery and planning, we learned that the firm had acquired the brand rights to the Montgomery Securities.
In the 1980's and 1990's, Montgomery Securities was a storied investment bank that underwrote many IPOs for Silicon Valley tech companies including AmGen, Micron Technologies, and Yahoo. It competed in the same geographic region and market sectors as Robertson Stephens (acquired by BankAmerica Corporation) and Hambrecht & Quist (now part of JPMorganChase). In 1997 Montgomery Securities sold to Nations Bank for $1.2 billion.
WSD strategized with the client about how to evolve the iconic Montgomery Securities name into a modern brand, relevant to the 2025 financial technology landscape. This included rounds of logo design which helped solidify messaging and brand colors. The client also selected a new forward-thinking domain name – GoMonty.com – which is easier to type and remember than "Montgomery-Securities.com". Under the direction of our Creative Director, Stephanie Long, WSD produced a new logo, new brand colors, and a new mobile-friendly website.
From a programming perspective, WSD deployed a Content Management System that includes a Page Manager, a Portfolio Manager, a Team Manager, and a News Manager. We also configured baseline search engine optimization which includes setting up Google Analytics, Google Seach Console, and Google Tag Manager, as well as crafting and inserting meta data including page titles and descriptions.
WSD recently met in person with Alfred Ritter at Shack 15, a business club in San Francisco's Ferry Building. Meeting with clients in-person is a bit of a novelty these days, so it was great to sit down with Alfred, share a cup of coffee, and engage face to face. We quickly learned that the acronymns and vocabulary that investment bankers use are hard for a lay-person to follow. This underscores the importance of hiring an experienced guide like Montgomery Securities should you ever go down the path of raising money or planning an exit. I suppose that feeling challenged by industry-specific parlance might be how an investment banker feels about a website developer!
